A transient technique involving the application of a small amplitude potential step to measure the solution resistance and the polarization resistance for corrosion rate measurements in industrial water environments has been developed. The technique has been shown to be useful in low conductivity solutions, such as boiler condensate and once-through cooling water, where solution resistance cannot be ignored in the linear polarization measurements. Based on this technique, a corrosion monitor was constructed for evaluation. The results obtained with a corrosion monitor in the laboratory and in the field will be discussed.
